Answer: The Bible is unique in many ways.  Here is just one of them:  We read, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me”  (John 5:39). Yes, those who obey the words of Scripture—who repent, receive proper baptism and the Holy Spirit, and who use that Spirit to overcome—are on the road to eternal life. No other “holy book” can deliver that result to its readers!

How relevant is that? And the entire Bible, from Old Testament through New, is loaded with scripture after scripture pointing to a life beyond this life. Not only does it point to such a life; it reveals what we must do to have that life eternal.

Take a look at the verses right around one very famous scripture: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:14-17).

Reality TV stars come and go. Trends and fads rise and fall. What is it that lasts? It is our very character that we take from moment to moment. What could be more relevant than a book that shows us how to have God’s own holy and righteous character as our own character, through the grace of our Savior and the Holy Spirit? And the best part? You can try it for yourself, and prove that God’s way really works!
